Mare owners, if you'd like to get your colt or filly started out with a proper foundation, I would suggest the investment of $5.99 in my foal-training course.

An excerpt from "Your Foal: Essential Training for the Young Horse":
When you're ready, leave the confines of the round pen and go explore. He thinks the world consists of a stall or paddock so you'll want to carefully and methodically accustom your baby to all sorts of sights and smells – and all of it from both directions. It's easy to think they've seen something; they should be okay with it. But unfortunately, their right brain doesn't seem to ever pass info to the left brain. Make sure that all experiences are experienced from all angles. You want a calm, "worldly" horse when you trailer to the first show or roping, so get out there and spend some quality time. Note: Train where you can, not where you can't. If your horse wigs out at the sight of garbage cans or traffic, start 100 steps away. Work him there on those things you've been practicing (giving to pressure, leading, turning to face you, swinging the lead line overhead, etc.) until he calms, then try 99 steps away. Keep edging in till those garbage cans are no longer a big deal. He won't forget them; he'll just learn to keep his focus on you. Above all, keep in mind my earlier advice: Be realistic in your expectations when out exploring. You've got years before he reaches something resembling mental maturity, so don't force things, don't ask for trouble.
